Lisa Buscher: “Hope Among Migrants: A Testimony of Life and Ministry at the Border”

Lisa Buscher, a religious sister of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will be one of the speakers on May 7 during the 2025 Plenary Assembly. With over 30 years of experience in pastoral ministry, her passion lies in accompanying people as they integrate the contemplative dimensions of their spiritual experience in a constantly changing world.

Currently, Lisa works with people on the move, migrants, and asylum seekers at the United States-Mexico border. She is the president of Collaborative for Border Ministries in San Diego, California, and a member of the Migrants and Refugees Committee of the UISG. She holds a degree in Religion from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, and went on to earn a Master’s in Theology and a Master of Divinity from the Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago, Illinois.

In her presentation titled “Hope Among Migrants: A Testimony of Life and Ministry at the Border”, Lisa will share her experience as a religious woman encountering hope among people on the move at the US-Mexico border. She will talk about how her testimony of hope and solidarity is a response to the struggles faced by migrants and asylum seekers, demonstrating how presence and support in times of great vulnerability can be tangible signs of hope.
Through her participation, Lisa will invite reflection on the hope that arises from the resilience of migrants and the role of religious women in responding to this call for solidarity.
