Sia Sahon Solange: Religious women, hope in a synodal Church

Sister Sia Sahon Solange, a religious of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Calvary, will be one of the speakers at the 2025 UISG Plenary Assembly. Her talk will take place on the afternoon of May 7 and will offer a profound reflection on the role of religious women in a synodal Church.

Since 2023, Sister Solange has served as Provincial Superior for Africa, and she is a prophetic voice in the theological and pastoral landscape of the African continent. A specialist in the theology of spirituality, she obtained a licentiate in biblical and systematic theology at the Catholic Institute of Paris, followed by a doctorate at the Catholic University of West Africa in Abidjan, where her research focused on anthropological pauperization according to Engelbert Mveng.

In addition to her academic work, she is deeply committed to formation and the protection of vulnerable individuals. She teaches spiritual theology at ICMA and the CELAF Institute and serves as Director of the Training Centre for the Prevention of Abuse of Minors and Vulnerable Persons at ICMA.
A member of the theological commission of SECAM and a delegate to the XVI General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops (October 2023 and 2024), Sister Solange brings valuable insight to the Church’s synodal journey, highlighting the experience and voice of African religious women.
Her presentation, entitled “Religious women, hope in a synodal Church”, draws from the shared experience within the Pan-African Catholic Theology and Pastoral Network, where religious women seek to develop transformational leadership inspired by Christ, both in religious communities and pastoral settings.

Her testimony invites us to recognize how religious women can be living signs of hope in a Church that walks together, building paths of justice, dialogue, and renewal.
