Sr. Katsu Hitomi: We want to receive the energy of everyone’s hope and be transformed

Sr. Katsu Hitomi, of Japanese origin, is Superior General of the Missionary Sisters of Christ the King in Canada. She expects a mutual transformation regarding the upcoming UISG Plenary Assembly as well as the Jubilee: Pilgrims of Hope:

“As a pilgrim of hope, I expect this meeting to be a precious opportunity for mutual transformation. I am delighted to be able to experience a diversity that brings together cultures, generations and charisms, whose richness helps us to advance on the path of transformation. I want to receive the energy of each other’s hope and let myself be transformed.”

Together with her congregation, Sr. Katsu lives this period of hope by responding to the breath of the Holy Spirit “as if we were dancing in harmony with Him.” In addition, she shares with us that this year, new initiatives are being launched by her congregation, approaching this “time of transition as an opportunity for creativity and renewal”:

“We are emphasizing the training of each member in economic management to ensure the sustainability of our charism and our mission, while valuing the human dimensions.”

On this note, the religious sisters appreciated the book “Economy at the Service of Charism and Mission” published by the former Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life in 2018. The book “gave us good guidance,” says the religious sister.

The charism of the Missionary Sisters of Christ the King lies, in the “revelation of the love of Christ,” which means bringing peace and hope, even in the most difficult situations, continues the Japanese religious. Thus, in a global context marked by wars, uncertainties and economic difficulties, the Superior General shares a memory of an apprenticeship in Asia:

“We visited a center for victims of human trafficking. While spontaneously discussing solutions, the sister in charge of the facility calmly told us: “We are here to be by their side.” These words had a profound impact on me.”

The congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Christ the King contributes in the areas of education, healthcare and social assistance, living alongside the most vulnerable, stresses Sr. Katsu and concludes our conversation by saying:

“It is in this closeness that our charism comes to life, transmitting peace and hope to them.”
