Sr. Margaret Maung: Bearer of Hope in Difficult Situations
Sr. Margaret Maung: Bearer of Hope in Difficult Situations
Another speaker at the UISG Plenary Assembly 2025 will be Sr. Margaret Maung, a religious from the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM), who will speak in the afternoon of May 7. Originally from Myanmar, Sr. Margaret is currently a member of the Congregation’s Leadership Team and continues to serve with a joyful and grateful heart in God’s mission in various international contexts. With over forty years of experience in pastoral and social ministries, she has faced numerous challenges that have shaped her life and commitment to the mission. She has held important roles within her congregation, including that of Provincial of the RNDM Sisters in Myanmar and President of the Catholic Religious Conference of Myanmar (CRCM). Sr. Margaret has also studied Spiritual Accompaniment and Professional Supervision in Ireland and has significantly contributed to the formation of new generations of religious women.
In her speech, Sr. Margaret will reflect on the crucial role religious women have played and continue to play as bearers of hope in extreme situations of difficulty, using her experience in Myanmar as an example. She will share how, during the period of political and social instability caused by the military regime, religious women remained a beacon of light for the most vulnerable people, continuing to serve the people with faith, resilience, and compassion. She will speak of how, despite daily challenges, the sisters continued to care for the poor and needy, offering them tangible and concrete hope.
Sr. Margaret’s reflection will invite to consider how hope, rooted in faith and the love of God, can transform the most dramatic situations and help us find the strength to move forward, even when everything around us seems to be falling apart. Her testimony will be a call to remain firm in hope, making it a shared journey that sustains and renews communities, even in the most difficult circumstances.
